Definitely a must play for any murder/mystery fans, Umineko no Naku Koro Ni is the spiritual sequel to the Visual Novel “Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni” both made by Ryukishi07.

sound effects, and story than anything else which is mostly what is used to set the mood when playing such a great game. The characters are fully voiced, with some anime fans recognizing some of the voices portrayed in this novel. The ultimate point in this game is to solve the murder, locate the gold, figure out if the crimes were done via supernatural ways or human ways, and find out who the true killer is. At some point in the game the “Red Truth” is introduced which states, as the name says, truths regarding a certain murder and/or crime scene. Anything said in Red is the absolute truth and no evidence is needed to prove it. When a player finishes an episode a small “Tea Party” epilogue will play with a 2nd epilogue titled “????” following after.

Story:

The giant cherry that ultimately draws people to Umineko.
The story takes place in the fictional island of Rokkenjima, in the year 1986. The main character of the story is Ushiromiya Battler who is joining his family for the annual family conference after leaving for 6 years due to not getting along with his father and the death of his mother. Kinzo, the Ushiromiya family’s head, is near death and his 4 children have decided to gather in order to discuss how the inheritance will be divided once he passes away.
Once in the Island, Battler is introduced to the Legend of the Golden Witch which tells the story of how a Witch governs the island during the night and lives in the forest of Rokkenjima. A giant portrait of her lies in the Entrance Hall of the Ushiromiya manor along with an epitaph: The Epitaph of the Golden Witch. There’s a rumor that Beatrice gave the Ushiromiya Family Head 10 tons of gold and that whoever solves the riddle of the epitaph will receive the gold and be declared the next Ushiromiya’s Family Head, regardless of whether or not they’re related to the family.
Not long after arriving at the island, a Typhoon hits cutting them from the outside world and marking the beginning of the bloody game, starting with the death of 6 people. It is revealed that if nobody solves the Epitaph then people will continue to die based on the writing in the Epitaph itself. At the end, Battler is the only left alive who refuses to believe in the Golden Witch, therefore not allowing the door to the “golden land” to open. As such, Beatrice takes Battler and herself to “Purgatorio” a dimension where they can oversee the events in Rokkenjima. This marks the start of a different game, a battle between Battler and Beatrice where Battler must explain all the happenings in Rokkenjima from the standpoint that they are not supernatural and therefore caused by a human while Beatrice explains everything with magic and witches. If Beatrice manages to make Battler surrender and accept that, ultimately, witches are real: Beatrice will win and revive.
